Taking a Stand

If you read the title and thought it was going to be some big inspiring story...sorry.

So the other day I made a comment on a message board on IMDb, it was a short little thing, not to many words, about Allison Scags
What I've noticed is she plays Crazy people alot.

Drake and Josh: Sent to mental ward
Mental: self explainitory
Warehouse 13: Checked herself into a mental ward

Today I got this as an answer to my comment

Seriously? You're going to label Claudia as crazy? Have you watched Warehouse 13? Because if you did, unless you didn't pay attention, you'd know she's far from crazy, even at that time she was upset because her brother had "disappeared" and though she knew what happened to him others didn't understand. There was a reason behind it and it was not due to her being crazy.

As for the Mental ep you're talking about, she was not crazy either. Her character was gender reassigned as a baby and she knew she didn't belong in the body of a girl. Even what she did in that ep can not be considered crazy except by people who are ignorant of the feelings of mentally ill people. Depressed people, as her character was, are not crazy. People who feel they're the wrong gender are not crazy either. You're being insensitive to people who've suffered with mental illness of any type by calling her 2 characters crazy.

I must admit my first reaction to this was being pissed off. I mean HOW DARE SOMEONE QUESTION MY LOYALTY TO WAREHOUSE 13????!???? But then I read it and I do see their point kind of. So instead of just letting them get away with their OWN assumtions, I took a stand. (Hence the title)

Okay. Fine. I see all your points, and perchance some things should have been re-worded. People who thought they were going crazy, but aren't.

The Mental episode, I can't saw that I saw it, but hey ignorance isn't an excuse now is it? Sorry for making false statments.

And conserning mental illness. I'd have to say crazy is a strong word, but before you call me ignorant why don't you get some of YOUR facts straight. In the past six months I have been doing reseach for a story about someone who has a mental illness. Calling her characters crazy, is somewhat like calling Native Americans, Indians. Not at all correct, but most people aren't going to blow up in your face if you say it.

Not that I mind the outburst, because I really don't. I'm glad that you will go through this to set the record straight. Just make sure you don't start jumping to conclusions.

Also, yes. I do watch Warehouse 13. It's my favorite show and Claudia is my favorite character. I regret that I made you assume otherwise

HA! Can't wait till they read THAT! I do hope they don't blow up at me again though...

  1. Lol... People are crazy. There. I said it, and I have no regret. I don't mean mentally insane, I mean they have no understanding of social mannerisms. There is joking around, like I took your labeling Allison Scags' characters as crazy as, and there is serious discussion, like the other person's blow-up seemed. I personally use the word crazy to describe people I don't like and/or don't agree with, not mentally insane individuals. I understand there can be misunderstandings and all about tone and humor, especially online where those things are very difficult to tell, but still I don't think that that response was reasonable.

Don't worry about the person, even if s/he blows up on you again. All you can do is try to show you meant no offense, like you did, and hope they get it. I don't think they'll lay off you, but that's just my pessimism at humans showing through.

Good job on the stand. I'd probably not come up with a response so convincing.

And to top off my little tirade, she's playing a CHARACTER. FICTIONALLY. It's like all those people who send/sent letters to Stephen King telling him off for animal cruelty towards his fictional dogs - I don't really think the high amount of offense is warranted. It's make-believe!

I only meant that to be a short comment, really I did... So yeah... In short, I agree with you.

Are you doing what I think you're doing? No? Just scrolling past?

I guess that's cool too.

It would be great if you like...commented though. It means a lot.

Just a quick hello or something, PLEASE????
